I’m crossing stuff off left and right – look at me go!
Last year I failed miserably had some trouble keeping my garden together (read: I grew more grass than squash). This year, it’s on my list to “Grow and freeze/jar my own vegetables (i.e. get my garden back up and running)” and by God, I will do it.
I know TECHNICALLY I haven’t froze (freezed?)/jarred the grown veggies yet BUT I’m totes crossing this off my list because IT’S PLANTED. And that’s better than I can say I did last year. And now that the beds are rototilled, the seedlings are in and I’ve been watering them every day, I’m certainly on my way to having my very own Farmer’s Market OR a nice side of squash for dinner one night… same thing.
So behold, my garden… and one less thing to accomplish before January 7th.
Tomaters.
More tomaters… and a plant that EVERYONE else seems to grow with no problem. Me? Not so much. I WAS successful with dahlias – see exhibit A in the flower bed above the problem plant.
Strawberries, an ungodly amount of rosemary and my first attempt at geraniums along with exhibit B of dahlias.
All of my herbs – some basil, oregano, parsley, lovage, summer savory, chives and tarragon. Lots and lots of tarragon. That shit’s like a weed and it just keeps coming back.
My first attempt at properly growing beans and peas, complete with my makeshift creeper.
Green and yellow squash, spaghetti squash, cucumbers, hot peppers and kohlrabi, which up until I just Googled it for the proper spelling, I had no idea what it was. It’s apparently a cabbage. And my veggie experiment of the year.
So, there you have it! Not a huge garden but manageable… definitely manageable. And for that, I’m going to cross it off the list.
Grow and freeze/jar my own vegetables (i.e. get my garden back up and running)
I’ll report back when it actually gets frozen (or freezed… I still didn’t figure that one out).
Gardening requires lots of water – most of it in the form of perspiration. ~Lou Erickson
