Who says you can't have it all?

Have I told you lately that I love you??? May 26, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — carharttsandcoachbags @ 11:45 AM

4 years ago, I married my best friend… and it was the best day of my life.

Off to celebrate our day off together!  Happy Anniversary my love!

Have I told you lately that I love you?
Have I told you there’s no one else above you?
Fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness,
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do.

For the morning sun in all it’s glory,
Meets the day with hope and comfort too,
You fill my life with laughter, somehow you make it better,
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do.

There’s a love less defined,
And its yours and its mine,
Like the sun.
And at the end of the day,
We should give thanks and pray,
To the one, to the one.

Have I told you lately that I love you?
Have I told you there’s no one else above you?
Fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness,
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do.
There’s a love less defined,
And its yours and its mine,
Like the sun.
And at the end of the day,
We should give thanks and pray,
To the one, to the one.

Have I told you lately that I love you?
Have I told you there’s no one else above you?
Fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness,
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do.

Take away all my sadness, fill my life with gladness,
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do.

Take away all my sadness, fill my life with gladness,
Ease my troubles, that’s what you do.

~ Have I Told You Lately sung by Rod Stewart (our wedding song)

I’ve got to get my ass in gear. May 19, 2011

It’s May 19th and according to my 365 Day Photo Project, I am 132 days 133 days (counting today but I haven’t posted a photo) into my 30 Before 30 Year.  That leaves 232 days left… 2/3 of my countdown to complete ohhh… 24 things.  WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN????  Where is this year GOING?  Granted, a few of them are year-long projects (I’m looking at you “no shoes for a year”) but some of them are BIG and take up a LOT of time (and WHY am I insisting on CAPITALIZING a ton of WORDS in this POST?).  18 Holes of Golf?  Not easy.  Run a 5 K?  Definitely not easy.  Lose 15 pounds????  Almost damned near impossible.  I have got to get my act together.

Seriously… why is it that people procrastinate?  If I could get a Certificate or even a Degree in Procrastination, I would receive it well… never!  Because I’m so damn good at it!

Guilty on 3 counts of procrastination.

So, let’s break down my list:

My 30 Before 30 List:

1. Learn to sail

I’m planning on going to Bimini this summer and a FABULOUS friend has agreed to teach me on her very own sail boat (she’s nuts… and that’s why I love her).  Ok, this is planned… I’m ready!

2. Take a photography class

I keep trying to sign up for one but it meets on Weds. in my town and that’s when my Rotary Club meets (stop laughing).  I really need to find a day-long Saturday course.  I’ll work on that.

3. Pay for someone’s meal behind me in a drive-thru

Done!  Easiest and most rewarding thing I’ve done.

4. Get CPR/First Aid Certified

Again, need to just find a class and Do It, Nike style.

5. Give blood again even though it’s difficult for me

Done!

6. Buy myself a nice piece of jewelry to commemorate my 29th birthday

First thing I did!

7. Learn how to knit

Yeah, I’m working on it.

8. Make myself a quilt out of my old t-shirts

This comes down to time… and a sewing machine.  At the moment, I have neither but I’ll figure it out.

9. Start a blog and document my list of 30 (and life within and after)

Oh wait, I guess this was technically the first thing I did.

10. Give snowboarding a shot.

My butt still hurts.

11. Take Brody to an agility class (this can’t be done until later in the year once his knee heals)

Hmmmm… his knee is still healing.  I hope this gets done but it might need to be modified.

12. Run a 5k (yeah… you heard me)

Oh dear God… I’m terrified of this one.  I really need to find a race (soon) and just.start.running.  I’m going to need to channel my inner Forrest Gump.  And I’m going to need to do it soon.

13. Go paintballing

This just sounds fun and I’ve got lots of people offering to do it with me!

14. Play 18 holes of golf (no scramble)

I’m not sure if I should do this with John or not… it could be the demise of our marriage.

15. Lose 15 pounds

The cupcake THREE cupcakes I ate yesterday are not helping this cause.  But damn they were good.

16. Go to a Gay Pride event

This will be a blast – just have to find one local and go!

17. Participate in the 365 Photo project starting and ending on my birthday

This is a work in progress and I’m not worried about it being completed.

18. Go TV free for one week

I’m waiting for the season finale of Glee to even think about this.

19. Take the Dune Buggy for a ride by myself (further than up and down the road)

It’s currently at the shop having its breaks fixed… preparing for our date.  I’m glad we figured out there was a problem BEFORE I crossed this off my list.

20. Make homemade pasta

This may also be happening in Bimini.  The fabulous sailor friend?  Also Italian.

21. Babysit for one of the many new babies in my life so my friend/family member can go on a date with their husband (and I can test my feet in the baby water)

This is really up to them… they just have to ask!  (hint hint wink wink)

22. Go wine tasting in Colchester (did you know there are vineyards in my town? and why have I not gone?)

This also seems like it will be an easy one – just waiting for a free weekend and some beautiful weather!

23. Learn how to properly go yard sale shopping with Katy… and make a day of it (Previously “Give up Facebook for a week”)

Spend a day with my best friend?  This will be so horrible and tough to schedule, I assure you.  Just kidding… I can’t wait!

24. Top my Halloween costume from this year

It’s on!

25. Visit Jen/Disney World/Harry Potter World

I threw up.

26. Go one year without buying a pair of shoes (this started as a bet and ended up on my list)

Dear God, is it almost January?????

27. Grow and freeze/jar my own vegetables (i.e. get my garden back up and running)

My tomatoes are in but I haven’t had the chance to clear my beds and get the rest planted which is a shame because they would be SOAKING up this rain… Hopefully everything will be in on Sunday.

28. Become more financially responsible (John and I have a personal goal set)

We’re working on this and even though we’ve spent a bit of money recently, they’ve all been wise purchases to upgrade our home so I am feeling good about it!  New wall-to-wall carpeting in our living room is a much more responsible financial splurge then say, a new Coach purse…

29. Make something with my dad in his wood shop

Looking forward to it!  And the “something” has turned into “somethingS!”  We have a list (surprised?).

30. Dance in the rain – with no umbrella

I’m waiting for the perfect moment.  You’d think with all of the rain this week, I would have found a time but it just hasn’t been “right.”  And it’s freezing.

Huh, when I write it all out as a list (and we know how I love those), it doesn’t look half bad!

Yeah, that’s why I wrote this blog post.

So… what do YOU think I should cross off my list next?

I promise 1000 promises… May 11, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — carharttsandcoachbags @ 12:13 PM

It’s not every day you find yourself a part of a real-life fairy tale.  Clearly, the recent Royal Wedding proved to us all that yes, even a commoner COULD be Queen.  But you know what?  I watched their wedding… and I liked mine better.  Now don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have turned down the beautiful carriage or the hand-sewn lace gown if it was handed to me.  But, I like my version of the Prince much more.

Last week (ok, 2 and a half weeks ago now that I’m finally getting around to publishing this),  I mentioned that John and I had hit a pretty big milestone.  That’s a 12 year, boulder-sized milestone.  Yep, we started dating when we were 8.  Ok… I was 17 but hey, you can’t blame a girl for trying to feel younger as she’s on the downward slide to the big 3-0 (but you knew that already).  12 years.  That’s 40% of my life.  What???  And wouldn’t you know… they’ve been the best 12 years of my life.

Babies, I tell you!

We started dating in April of my Junior and his Senior year of high school.  Yep, I’m the cliche that married her high school sweetheart.  Truth is, there were a LOT of couples from high school who got married, both who had dated since and those who reconnected after.  Knowing he would be leaving for college, we decided we were just going to hang out but before we knew it, it was time for him to leave and we were “breaking up” a relationship that had become very real in a short amount of time.  Needless to say, the “break up” included daily phone calls and a visit in Hampton Beach (don’t judge) the first week he was away and by the following weekend, we were back on and haven’t looked back.  So no, I don’t count that as a break up at all and we certainly weren’t going to reschedule our anniversary because of it.

Junior/Senior Prom – before someone attacked my face for some much needed eyebrow pruning.

We both knew we wanted to get married early on in the relationship but we also were in no rush to do so.  People couldn’t believe that we were waiting so long – I’m not sure when the ripe age of 25 became the card-carrying days of  Spinsterhood – and we were together for 6 and a half years before he proposed (the number of side diamonds in my engagement ring represent that) and over 8 when we actually tied the knot at the ages of 25 and 27 (him being the older-and-already-hit-30 one).

All 3 of these pictures were taken at the same spot at Sugarloaf.  The last one culminated with a sparkly gem on my left hand.

When our wedding day FINALLY came, I can honestly say it was the best day of my life.  I got to marry my best friend, in front of all my friends and family (except for a few treasured missing guests) and we were able to redefine our love, in our own way and promised that it would last forever.

My very own fairytale.

Our wedding was perfect for us – just like all of our friends’ weddings were perfect for them – and I couldn’t imagine doing any of it any differently.  We wrote our own vows, took pics on the beach, drank fruity, Bahamian-themed concoctions and danced the night away.  So here we sit, smack dab in between our 12 year dating anniversary (April 26th) and our 4 year wedding anniversary (May 26th – I’m sure you see the connection) and I couldn’t be happier.  And as we look forward to the many many MANY years to come (Lord willing), we will never forget to reflect upon the years that got us here in the first place.

I love you babe!

And I promise… 1000 promises… that it won’t take me so long to write another post.

Love is a promise; love is a souvenir, once given never forgotten, never let it disappear. ~John Lennon

Fly by posting… May 8, 2011

Yeah… I’ve been busy and I haven’t written a blog in a while.  Sorry about that.

This is a total lie… I’ve had things to do.

Or maybe you didn’t even notice that I haven’t posted in 2 weeks.  And if that’s the case, then just carry on.

I’ve got two posts in draft form – now I just need to get over that procrastination mole hill and get my ass in gear.  Cut me some slack – it’s finally nice out!  Dare I say spring-like!?!  Which means things can start getting crossed off the list again!  Now, let’s find some motivation…
